Bangkok is located in the central part of Thailand on the low-flat plain of the Chao Phraya river, which is the most important river in the country and can be considered to be the main artery of the nation.   • Geography and Climate:

    Bangkok has a monsoon type of climate, which can be classified into three main seasons: rainy (May - October), cool (November - January) and summer (February - April). The average annual temperature was 29.2°C (2005).


  • How to get there:

    Suvarnabhumi Airport: The new international airport is located about 15 km of on the east-bound Bangna-Trat highway in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakarn province and is about 25 km. from downtown Bangkok. It is accessible via five routes.

    Domestic Airlines:  All domestic routes for destinations such as Samui, Phuket, Krabi, Chumphon as well as Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are serviced from the concourses A and B of Bangkok's new aviation hub, Suvarnabhumi Airport.


  • When to visit:

    With a warm, tropical climate, Bangkok is a popular destination any time of the year. However, the monsoon season from May through October keeps many visitors at bay with unpredictable storms, although it is the least expensive time to visit. Most people prefer to come to Bangkok during November through April, when the weather is dry and pleasant, even though prices are at their peak.

  • By Road:

    Bangkok's three official long haul bus terminals are:
      Eastern Bus Terminal: It also known as Ekamai, this relatively compact terminal is located right next to Ekamai BTS station on Sukhumvit (E7). Ekamai serves Eastern Thailand destinations, including Pattaya, Rayong, Ban Phe, Chanthaburi and Trat.

      North & North Eastern Bus Terminal: It also known as Moh Chit (or Mor Chit or Morchit), this is the largest, busiest, and most modern terminal. The upper floor serves the North-East (Isaan).

      Southern Bus Terminal:  It also known as Sai Tai Mai, this older and relatively chaotic sprawling terminal serves all points west and south.


  • By Rail:

    The three main stations in Bangkok are:
                Hualamphong Train Station.
                Bang Sue Train Station.
                Thonburi Train Station.


  • By Air:

    Some of the airlines, which fly to Bangkok, are Aeroflot, Air India, Dragon Air, Thai Airways, Air France, British Airways, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Gulf Air, KLM, Qantas, Swiss International Airlines, and United Airlines.


  • By Water:

    Cruise ships visiting Bangkok arrive at Laem Chabang, about 90 minutes south-east of Bangkok and about 30 minutes north of Pattaya.

  • Must do:

    A poignant trip to the Bridge Over the River Kwai is a must-do excursion for most visitors to the city, and the sight of the bridge (which unlike in the film was not destroyed) along with the allied cemeteries and the Death Railway is certain to leave many of the tour party in tears.
